helicopter accident on i-70. >> baltimore's hospital shift. how the u.s. ns comfort was welcomed home earlier tonight. >> and senior athletes. why age certainly is not the only thing remarkable about these women. >> live in high definition, from wbff tv in baltimore, this is fox 45 news "late edition". >> hello again, i am jeff barnd. jennifer has tonight off. crime and justice report are tonight. criticism over the arrest of 17-year-old lamont davis. >> davis is behind bars charged with attempted murder. following the shooting of a 5-year-old and another child. the man overseeing the department of juvenile services spoke to fox 45 to discusses gps monitoring and whether it works in keeping the public safe. >> we have seen a lot of success with this. and, i believe, we will continue

to. you will always have some sensationalized stories like lamont davis. >> davis was being monitored. the gps manufacturer said the device can only track offenders if the ankle device is charged. but davis' case proves that there are limitations. >> you know, there are ways that you can get around the tracking of a one piece unit. just are there are ways that you can try to force the system. set up of the program, and making sure that the youth knows there are consequences. >> neighborhoods in the city of baltimore and across the nation, are fighting back tonight. it is the national night out against crime. neighborhood associations celebrated in several areas this evening. we found a block party at the corner of preston and mount street in west baltimore. music was pumping and message was clear. national night out is a gathering to bring the community, and officers, together to help fight crime. >> well, i think, we have had great success over the last couple of years. i think, it is reflected in the crime and crime statistics.

but, i think, it is the first step. >> police say crime is down overall. and aggravated assaults are down 5 percent. compared to this time last year. shootings are down surprisingly 25 percent and that includes the 12 people shot at that cookout in east baltimore, nearly two weeks ago. homicides however are up 7 percent. . >> chilling 911 calls from motorists along i-70 the night the helicopter crashed killing four. you are hearing them first on fox tonight. >> i passed a helicopter it went down on i-70. eastbound. 37-mile marker. >> helicopter crashed in boonsboro, between hagerstown and frederick, the pilot delayed take off due to the storms in the area that night when it crashed the washington county emergency lines got dozens of calls. >> my boyfriend said he thought it was a shooting star because it dropped so quickly. >> are you sure it was a helicopter.

>> it is a helicopter. helicopter. going down. >> it could take the n.t.s.b. one year before it issues the final report on this business. >> new information tonight about the middle river couple facing charges of child porn and sexual abuse of young children. the fbi has joined in the investigation of nikolaus and honeya and they have yet to identify the victims of the couple and we have learned tonight, that the fbi will indeed help in that part of the investigation. >> at least, four people are dead tonight at a pennsylvania health club. police are currently on the scene of a shooting at the l.a. fitness club in bridgeville pennsylvania. a gunman opened fire about 9:00 tonight. and is amung the dead. witnesses tell police they heard 12 to 15 shots. >> a baltimore inmate is sentenced for extortion. 41-year-old jeffrey folks called the mother of a fellow inmate. she said her son owed debts for cigarettes, liquor and gambling. he demanded payment for his

safety. and she paid $7000. folks is currently serving 30 years behind bars for murder. he now is adding 30 months and more than $4000 in fines as a result. >> a hot and humid august day. is there any relief in sight? chief meteorologist gee vytas reid joins us with the sky watch forecast. vytas? >> see relief from the heat as we get down the road a bit. but tomorrow another hot and humid day. and it has helped to fire off a lot of storms over the west. violent line of storms pushing through southern illinois, indiana, kentucky and then also portions of western tennessee. this activity is going to continue to push south. for us relatively quiet conditions. we had pop-up showers earlier today. but we can see the temperatures across the area. 81 in baltimore downtown on. 79 in d.c. 79 in hagerstown. and nice warm up tomorrow with the temperatures getting into the lower 90s. but tomorrow afternoon, looking at the thunderstorms firing up across the area. we could get severe weather to watch out for. by mid afternoon.

4 1/2 percent. cancelled flights up 1 1/2 percent. hawaiian airlines had the best on time performance in june. >> cash-for-clunkers program is set to be extend brad congress goes on vacation friday. so far, a quarter million people have already taken advantage of the particular program. but tonight your privacy is the major concern. when car dealers logged onto the cash-for-clunkers website recently, they were greeted with a statement saying the dealerships's computer system is now considered federal property. the original privacy statement was posted only on the website dealers could access. >> questions about the proposed federal health care plan, and patient privacy, under the program, the government would need access to medical records of people covered. flight your records can only be seen by your doctor and insurance agency. >> so, that brings us now to the question of the day. do you trust the federal government with your personal information? so far, 7 percent of you say yes. 93 percent say no.

something about it. if it were up to me, i would ban drivers from texting immediately. >> researchers say a ban is not enough to get drivers to change their habits without education, and, of course, enforcement. >> hot and hazy. how is the rest of the work week shaping up? chief meteorologist vytas reid is here with another look at the humid and sticky forecast. vytas? >> very hot and sticky out there. another hot one out there. humidity levels are not giving us a break until we see a cold front push through. that could give us showers and thunderstorms. maybe severe ones. tomorrow afternoon. our hd skycam inner harbour, looking at clear skies. full moon. 74 degrees. winds are calm. and humidity levels at 87 percent. so that does make it feel sticky and balmy out there at this time. as far as the almanac page, high of schwa 88 today. low was 66 this morning. normally we should be at 87 and 66. so temperatures in the ballpark of where they should be for this time of year as far as the heat

and humidity out there. as far as the temperatures across the mid-atlantic. looking at the lower 80s right now. but we will continue to see the warm push of air out of the southwest. as we head through the day tomorrow. see 60s back over parts of indiana, ohio, michigan, that is a sign of cooler air in play. but this front will take the time coming into the mid-atlantic by tomorrow afternoon. and it could fire off some pretty decent thunderstorms and heavy downpours at times, with frequent lightning. you can see some of the activity over the ohio river valley, where they saw anywhere from five to 7 inches of rainfall around the lewisville kentucky area. had to close parts of i-65 through downtown because of the heavy rain. but it looks like around here. breaks in the clouds. but as the front approaches tomorrow afternoon. threat of severe weather increases. future scan, model data shows potential for showers and thunderstorms tomorrow. by 6:00, your commute to work will be decent but by the afternoon you can see the showers and thunderstorms firing up across the area. some time after 1:00, 2:00 in the afternoon. the better chance for severe

weather plate and mid afternoon. and then it clears out as we get into thursday, more clearing. giving us more sunshine. with cooler temperatures. with less humidity. so we will see the temperatures in the 80s. versus 90s. future scan as far as the potential rainfall. anywhere from a quarter to a 10th of an inch. but crossing the bay, maybe up to 2 to 3 to 4 inches of rain out toward salisbury, depending on where the heavier track of showers and thunderstorms are. see if that plays on out with the model date tap. looking at what's happening with the front pushing through. running into the warm and stable air. low pressure develops over the area and it looks like that could create extra lift, and then behind it clearing. so it looks like tomorrow, 93 degrees. with the thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. and then on the five-day forecast. 85 on thursday, sun and clouds. and friday and saturday mid 80s. with chance of showers and sunday back to 93 and sun and clouds. . >> if you think age slows people
